About Ronen
Ronen was born in Israel in 1970 to Jewish parents who both moved to Israel looking for the opportunities the new country offered. His mother emigrated from Morocco in the early 1960’s and his father from Iraq in the late 1950’s. They met, married, and started their family in Israel.
Ronen grew up in a small town outside Tel Aviv, graduating from the local school system and then entering the Army at 18 years old. He served as a physical training instructor, teaching other soldiers the Israeli self-defense art of Krav Maga.
Upon the completion of his military service, he made the decision to join his brother in the United States, who had been working as an auto mechanic in New York City. Staying at his brother’s apartment in Times Square, Ronen became immersed in NYC life and culture and quickly fell in love with the city he would call home for many years to come.
He immediately learned to drive a tow truck and went to work. He briefly returned to Isael in 1995, and up coming back to NYC he worked for a time as a driver for a car service before going into construction where he eventually became an experienced in full interior renovations. To make extra money, he also joined the Screen Actors Guild and worked frequently for TV and movie productions filmed here in NYC.
In 2003 he met Hana who would be his wife the following year. Together they settled in the West Village and had three children, all who attended local public schools. They built a great life for their family, until covid hit in early 2020. At that time they took their kids and went to Florida to spend a few months during the shutdown with Hana’s mother.
Upon returning to NYC that June they realized that in that short time NYC had dramatically changed, with shutdowns and remote schooling was now the norm. Fortunately for their children, later that summer they were accepted to an excellent private Jewish school in Florida, and the family went back to Florida to take advantage of this opportunity for their children.
Ronen began pursuing business with local contractors doing interior renovations. But before long, as NY began its slow return to normal, Ronen’s old customers began calling for his services and he returned to the city he loved to serve his loyal clients.
Ronen was never involved in politics before, but what he saw happen to NYC over the last few years convinced him that good people who love this city need to step up and run for public office to serve the people and return this city that has provided him with so much opportunity back to normalcy.
